Breaking: Evan Bayh to Retire from Senate

Feb15

News just in from the AP Senator Evan Bayh will announce that he’s retiring from the senate:

Sen. Evan Bayh, a centrist Democrat from Indiana, is ready to announce he won’t seek a third term in Congress, giving Republicans a chance to pick up a Senate seat.”To put it in the words most Hoosiers can understand: I love working for the people of Indiana, I love helping our citizens make the most of their lives, but I do not love Congress,” Bayh said in comments prepared for an announcement later Monday in Indianapolis. His statement was obtained by The Associated Press from a Democratic official who declined to be named publicly.

The departure of Bayh, who was on Barack Obama’s short list of vice presidential candidate prospects in 2008, continues a recent exodus from Congress among both Democrats and Republicans, including veteran Democrats Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island.

The announcements have sprung up in rapid-fire fashion amid polls showing a rising anti-incumbent fervor and voter anger over Washington partisanship, high unemployment, federal deficits and lucrative banking industry bonuses.

In his statement, Bayh, who won the seat to the Senate in 1998, seemed to attribute his decision to the bitter partisan divides that have dominated Congress in recent years, though he praised his colleagues as hard workers devoting to serving the public.

“My decision should not be interpreted for more than it is, a very difficult, deeply personal one,” Bayh’s statement said. “I am an executive at heart. I value my independence. I am not motivated by strident partisanship or ideology.”

Bayh said he believed he would have been re-elected this November, despite “the current challenging environment.” He said it was time for him to “contribute to society in another way,” either by creating jobs with a business, leading a college or university, or running a charity.

Bayh’s surprising announcement further hinders Democrats from keeping control of Congress and opens the door for a sweeping surge of anti-incumbent challengers.

Medina explains how to place yourself in the fringe with a few simple words

Feb11

Amazing. Debra Medina, candidate for Texas Governor, was gaining significant traction in the Republican primary… until today.

I just heard Debra Medina on the Glenn Beck radio show, and she really messed up badly. Glenn Beck said that people had accused her of being a 9-11 truther. Beck asked her straight up if she thought the government was in any way involved in 9-11 and the towers coming down.

She would not deny it. I expected her to say, “absolutely not. It’s absurd.” But she didn’t. She said that she didn’t have enough information and that there was a lot of things we don’t know.

You can listen to the clip via the following (more…)

Newt Gingrich declares war on grassroots… again.

Feb4

Oh boy… New Gingrich appears poised to step in some nasty RINO sludge again. This time in Utah.

For immediate release-February 4, 2010

Fresh Off NY-23 Humiliation, Gingrich Gives Bennett “Kiss of Dede”
In Utah, Former Speaker Endorses Another Big-Government Republican

WASHINGTON – The Club for Growth PAC today responded to comments by
former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who yesterday attacked the
non-partisan Club for not blindly supporting all Washington Republican
incumbents. At an event in Utah yesterday, Gingrich endorsed Senator
Bob Bennett and criticized the Club PAC for opposing the three-term
incumbent, sponsor of the Wyden-Bennett government health care takeover
bill, and advocate of the Bridge to Nowhere and the Wall Street bailout.

“Last fall, as conservatives around the country rallied to help Doug
Hoffman in New York’s 23rd district special election, Newt Gingrich
supported the ultra-liberal Dede Scozzafava, right up to the day she
dropped out of the race and endorsed the liberal Democrat,” said Club
President Chris Chocola. “Newt has proven time and again that he will
support any Republican, regardless of policies and principles. That’s
his right, but the Club for Growth PAC puts principles over party.”

“Newt was wrong about New York-23, and he’s wrong about Utah,” Chocola
said. “And pretty soon, Bennett will wish Newt never gave him the kiss
of Dede.”

The Club for Growth PAC announced last month that it opposes Sen.
Bennett’s re-nomination for a fourth term in the U.S. Senate, citing the
Utah Republican’s history of troubling votes on economic issues.
Specifically:

* Bennett voted for TARP, the $750 billion Wall Street bailout;

* Bennett voted for the disgraceful “Bridge to Nowhere” earmark;

* Bennett refused to block funding for any further bailouts of
auto manufacturers;

* Bennett voted against redirecting wasteful Defense earmarks
toward improved health care for disabled veterans;

* Bennett voted against a resolution stating the Senate had a
“moral obligation” to cut spending;

* Bennett’s health care proposal would impose an
unconstitutional individual mandate, increase federal taxes and spending
by hundreds of billions of dollars, and force Americans to pay their
insurance premiums through the IRS.

Rep. Marion Berry takes nearest exit… retires

Jan25

At this point, we have to wonder what kind of conversations are happening behind closed doors within the ranks of the Democrats. First it was Vic Snyder, now it’s Marion Berry.

Fox has learned that six-term Rep. Marion Berry (D-AR) will retire at the end of this term.

Berry is the latest in a long list of both House Democrats and Republicans who have decided to step aside at the end of this Congress. But Berry’s retirement could prove to be particularly vexing for Democrats.

Just last week, Rep. Vic Snyder (D-AR) announced his retirement. And Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) is expected to face one of the toughest re-election campaigns for any Senate Democrat in the country. This shows a vulnerability for Democrats in the south. And a special weakness in Arkansas, where Snyder and Berry may have seen troubled waters ahead statewide with Lincoln at the top of the ballot.

Senator Blanche Lincoln is in big trouble. And with two house seats now in full play, Arkansas could see a major shift this year.

The media vs. GOTV

Jan19

We’re getting reports that several media outlets are strongly suggesting a Scott Brown victory. While this may certainly be the case, we think it’s important to continue calling folks and getting the voters to the polls.

Even if media claims a win for Brown, voters need to go cast the votes.

There isn’t any solid evidence that Scott Brown is winning right now, and if the media starts building up the idea that he is… it could discourage voters from going to the polls.

From what we’ve seen, Scott Brown is running a superior GOTV effort. With this in mind, liberal media and opposition camps are going to do everything possible to cut down on the success of the campaign.

GOTV will make or break this election. Every Brown voter needs to go to the polls and we should push it until the polls close this evening.

Electioneering in Boston!

Jan19

We knew there would be some funny stuff take place in the polling of the special election in MA, but we thought it might wait until later in the day.

We were wrong.

Commonwealth law states the following:

and no other poster, card, handbill, placard, picture or circular intended to influence the action of the voter shall be posted, exhibited, circulated or distributed in the polling place, in the building where the polling place is located, on the walls thereof, on the premises on which the building stands, or within one hundred and fifty feet of the building entrance door to such polling place

Election Journal has more pictures and video of the electioneering taking place today.

Martha Coakley: “You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.”

Jan15

Gateway Pundit via Big Government posted another gaffe by Martha Coakley. At this point Scott Browns Victory Strategy should be to remain silent and his opponent keep talking and putting her foot in her mouth!

Martha Coakley talking with Ken Pittman from WBSM in Mass. today said “You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.”

“You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.”

Democrat Martha Coakley was on with Ken Pittman from WBSM in Massachusetts today. Martha told Ken that if you object to abortion and are a devout Catholic then…
“You probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.”

From the interview:

Ken Pittman: Right, if you are a Catholic, and believe what the Pope teaches that any form of birth control is a sin. ah you don’t want to do that.

Martha Coakley: No we have a seperation of church and state Ken, lets be clear.

Ken Pittman: In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom.

Martha Coakley: (……uh, eh…um..) The law says that people are allowed to have that. You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.

The entire interview is posted here.
