So much for promises…
Nov6In record time, and with little surprise to Doug Hoffman supporters, newly elected Congressman Bill Owens managed to break no less than 4 of his campaign promises in less than 24 hours.
It appears as though liberal Democrat Bill Owens will now support the “Affordable Healthcare for America Act,” as it is currently written.
Owens also made it clear that he opposed cutting Medicare benefits, taxing health care benefits, and increased taxes on the middle class.
The House Health reform bill contains sections that cut Medicare benefits, tax existing health care benefits, and increases taxes on the middle class, yet Mr. Owens stated today that he will now vote in favor of those things contrary to what he had promised the voters of NY’s 23rd Congressional District that he would vote against.
If the liberal healthcare legislation passes, a good portion of New York’s 23rd Congressional district will have little room for complaint. A major blitz of campaign ads and literature put out by Hoffman, Scozzafava and many third parties, made it clear what kind of candidate Bill Owens was.
As in any other race in the country, you get what you vote for. And in the case of NY23, about half of the district voted for higher taxes, more taxes, and cuts to existing benefits.
Which seems really quite bizarre when you stop and think about it.
