Jim Cooper missed the memo

Nov7

When I reflect back on Mark Kirk of Illinois and his vote for Cap & Trade, the part that upsets me the most is that he admits it probably wasn’t a good vote for America and its core foundation. He admits he probably shouldn’t have voted for it, and he admits the bill had flaws.

Congressman Mark Kirk is in a position of leadership. He has significant responsibility as a Congressman and his Oath to the Constitution does not suggest he should vote for dangerous, flawed bills that damage the fabric of America. At least not in my opinion.

Which leads me to “wonder what on earth these guys in Congress are thinking?”

Politico points out that Moderate Democrat, Jim Cooper just released a statement showing his support for the bill.

I will vote yes on H.R. 3962. My vote is not an endorsement of all the provisions of the bill because I find much of the bill to be deeply flawed. There is little chance that H.R. 3962 will become law due to the long legislative process. My reason for voting yes is to advance the cause of health care reform by forcing the Senate to act. Without passage of this House bill, the Senate could delay reform indefinitely. That would be the worst possible outcome because our current health-care system is not sustainable. Congress needs to pass good health legislation in the next few months for the good of the country.

How can any Congressman vote for a Bill that he finds to be “deeply flawed?” Is this keeping in sync with the Oath to uphold the Constitution and legislate in ways that protect the rights of Americans?

And finally… did Jim Cooper miss that fact that the majority of Americans do not support the current legislation as it is written?
