NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions Says Hoffman Invited to GOP Caucus If He Wins
Oct29
Did the GOP decide Dede is a lost cause?
In a sign that the GOP is coming to its senses, Politico is reporting that Texas congressman and NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions said Thursday that if Doug Hoffman were to win in the NY-23 special election against republican candidate Dede Scozzafava and democrat Bill Owens he would be invited to join the republican House caucus in the same way Joe Lieberman does with the democrats. ““He would be very welcome, with open arms,” Sessions reportedly said.
Further, Sessions told Politico: “I think it’s pretty clear that a person who would vote for John Boehner, support tax cuts,
support growing our economy, and defeat Nancy Pelosi’s tax and spend agenda will be really welcome in our conference, and I think having a person who can win that district off that message would be really good for the Republican Party,”
As of late, polls have revealed that Hoffman is pulling ahead and winning over a majority of independents and Republicans who are rejecting the establishment candidate as evidenced by a Daily Kos poll that showed him tied with Owens (D) and beating Scozzafava (R) among republicans 41 to 34.
All in all, should Hoffman cut further into Scozzafava’s republican support over the next few days, election day may turn out to be be a modern “shot heard ’round the world” (or a least a shot that has liberal republicans ducking for cover).
