Republicans across the board are tying up loose ends.

Mike Pence is often considered a clear-headed conservative Republican who sticks to his principles. Today, he has made that clear. Being Chairman of the House Republican Conference it was never a very smart decision for him to endorse the real conservative in the NY-23 special election. So he didn’t, but he also didn’t give the nod to the liberal Scozzafava. Now that she is out and Hoffman is the only candidate for (most) republicans and conservatives alike he has officially endorsed Doug Hoffman.

Here is Mike Pence’s statement:

“As chairman of the House Republican Conference, I am proud to announce my support for Doug Hoffman for election to Congress in the 23rd District of New York.

Dede Scozzafava’s decision to suspend her campaign is to be commended. By doing so, she has put the interests of her country and her party ahead of personal considerations.

Now is the time for all Republicans to come behind Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. We look forward to welcoming him to the House Republican Conference. By electing Doug Hoffman to Congress, the citizens of New York’s 23rd District can send a deafening message to Washington, D.C. that the era of borrowing and spending and bailouts and takeovers is over.”
