Some tutorials for Wave

Nov30

I have some basic tutorial videos for some of the applications for Google Wave. These are basic videos on how to change your name and avatar, adding a youtube video, and adding a website using the iframe gadget. I could do a whole week or more of the uses for Google Wave, but I thought that I should do some basics for people just getting started on Google Wave.

I would advise you to maximize the videos to view them

First to change your name and avatar
you go to the top of the Contacts box and click on your name:

profile

and your profile box willl come up:

profile2

Now I will show you on the video how to go from here:

Now how to add a youtube video to Wave:

Adding a Website to Wave:

along with many other gadgets, bots and extensions.

This will probably the first installment as I play around more with Google Wave. This is just the basics, along with the post I did before on Google Wave and collaboration and Brain Storming.

Financial Voices Spotlight: TickerGuy

TickerGuy runs one of the most entertaining, and yet informative, financial news shows around. A seasoned investor and financial professional, he gives up-to-the-minute analysis of the latest goings on among the Wall Street crowd.

His reportage can be very technical, yet impassioned and provocative. And there certainly is a lot to get worked up about. I’m looking forward to today’s broadcast on the topics of Dubai and Bernanke.

Catch Detonation in Dubai at 4:30 Eastern Time.

Google Wave

Nov28

OK now that I have been playing around with Google wave for a while now, I will give my thoughts on it.

Google WAve looks to be a very useful tool for collaborating and Brain storming

Collaboration: Google Wave can be used much easier than regular email. You can have everyone on the same wave and interact in real time, instead of waiting to receive an email. With Gmail or any other email system you have to wait until the email is received in your inbox, but with Wave you can see the others typing in the wave. This makes Collaboration very easy and very fast. Also another great tool or extension for collaboration is the iframe extension. With this you can add a google docs page into the wave and have everyone edit it in real time, instead of sending it back and forth over email

You can also use the iframe extension for embedding any website, such as Google.com, a blog or a news site. http://wave-ide.appspot.com/iframe.xml

Brain Stormimg: Another great extension that you cna use now is the Brain Storm extension. This is good way to collect people’s thoughts on a project: http://www.madin.jp/gadget/index.xml

There are a whole lot of ways you can use Google wave in a collaborative blogging situation, news site situation, educational situation and many more uses.

There are some downfalls as of right now. It is slow at times since it is on a server used by google for everyone. In the future you will be able to host it on your own cloud. There are still some bugs in the system also. Sometimes you can not see if someone is online or not. And the invite only it is hard to get everyone you want on it.

But in all I think it will be a very useful tool for collaboration. education and various other situations in the future.

I will keep on playing around with it some more and probably have some more reviews later on.

Give us your thoughts on Google Wave.

A little Geek humor for a Friday

Nov27

I know all the geeks out there will get a laugh out of this one. The funny part is it is true.

3 guys were riding in a car: a hardware technician, a systems analyst, and a programmer.

The systems analyst is driving and when they come to a steep hill he finds that the brakes have failed and the car is accelerating out of control.

So, the driver pumps the emergency brake, downshifts the gears, and rubs the wheels’ rims against the curb.

He finally wrestles the car to a stop. The three climb out and assess the situation.

Hardware tech: “Let’s try and fix it. I’ll crawl under the car and take a look. ”

Systems analyst: “No. I think we should get someone qualified to fix it, a specialist in brakes.”

Programmer: “Why don’t we just get back in and see if it happens again?”

Family Guy and Windows 7

Nov27

They eventually backed out and did not air on TV the advertising, but they have put the ads on their Youtube Channel.

Here they are in all their glory:

Now I can see why they pulled the plug on these. I like Family Guy, but do nto think that advertising on their cartoons would be an advantage or even really worth it. Family Guy is better for spoofing companies than actually advertising for them.

What do you think about them????

TED sixth sense technology

Nov27

How many of you have seen the movie Minority Report.

Well we are getting one step closer to having the technology to have the computer system that Tom Cruise used in that movie.

[ www.mobileUncle.com ] Basically, Sixth Sense is a mini-projector coupled with a camera and a cellphone—which acts as the computer and your connection to the Cloud, all the information stored on the web. Sixth Sense can also obey hand gestures, like in the movie Report.

So when are we going to have the cops arrest people before the actual crimes???

Deadbeats in Dubai: It’s always something

Nov27

rrdan

Mainstream media reporting in the US is stunningly insular. In their never-ending quest to promote Barack Obama’s election, the MSM ran with the story that inadequte regulation, which was of course the fault of George W. Bush, was the overriding cause of our current financial crisis.

Of course, the reality is more complicated. Credit-enabled asset bubbles are a recurring phenomenon in history, and feed on the weakness of human nature. In 2007, we saw a spectacular example with Iceland, the country that had turned itself into a hedge fund. The meltdown in Labour-governed Great Britain has been every bit as steep and nasty as under the center-Right George Bush. And now we are seeing the same thing in Dubai.

And a nasty repeat lesson awaits policymakers. There is no easy cure for asset-bubble, credit-fueled recessions. The Dubai economy was driven by rampant real estate speculation. The country had become one hugely overbuilt infrastructure project. And of course the stimulus “cure” for recessions relies heavily on infrastructure spending. It hasn’t worked in the US, where at least a growing population needs homes. Prospects are much poorer in Dubai, with a small, mobile and largely expatriate population, and a heavy component of commercial real now in white elephant territory.

Some rough sailing is ahead! And for those who are appalled at Wall Street bonuses, you can bet your last dollar that many bankers are toiling away this holiday weekend in a crash project to estimate their Dubai exposure.

It’s always something!
