As an early disclaimer, I serve as Chair of the Liberty First PAC, and I do not claim to be viewing this story from a non-partisan view. I do, however, claim an understanding of the tea party landscape and the general mindset of the movement going in to 2010.
On January 1st, 2010, after a brief discussion with a handful of tea party activists, Liberty First PAC officially endorsed Marco Rubio in his bid for U.S. Senate in Florida. Brandon Kiser has a copy of our press release posted here.
As many have pointed out, Liberty First PAC was one of the first organized efforts to shift tea party activism into campaign mode. More specifically… funding for conservatives and boots-on-the-ground organizing for campaigns.
While the response to our call for action has been encouraging, the effort has been a challenging endeavor and we’ve had to tread lightly. The movement is in no mood for “politics as usual,” and because of this we make decisions only when all options have been considered and we firmly believe we’re making the right move.
Our core group felt confident earlier today, and the decision to support Marco Rubio in the Republican Primary in Florida became official.
To my knowledge, Liberty First PAC is the first Federal, non-associated Political Action Committee that is made up solely of Tea Party Activists. Because of this, I believe this endorsement should be viewed as a signal for the GOP and old school political establishment. And the message is simple… we’re itching for a fight, and we’re ready for battle.
Liberty First PAC will most certainly endorse many other candidates in the 2010 election cycle, but this might be one of the most significant of them all if the movement unifies and works together to help Rubio win the seat.
Only time will tell…

Where can I find more about “marco Rubio”? I vote every election and my vote is the only weapon I have to upset what is going on now. But I want to find out for myself, I don’t need anyone to endorse my pick.
Yes, I support Rubio because I support his conservative idealology. I can hardly wait to vote these self-servicing career politicians out of office.
The people in FL had been ragging on Crist for not spending enough time on the job. His comment was that he was always on the job and only a telephone call away. Well just this past week he admitted he’s fallen out of favor in FL because of spending too much time campaigning for the Senate position. Hey Crist, I don’t believe you really ‘get it’! ~~
