Suicide Bomb in Pakistan Kills 12 – Including 1 Mayor
Nov8
Using 22 lbs of explosives, a Taliban suicide bomber has injured 36 people and killed 12 near Peshawar City, Pakistan. One of the dead was a local mayor, Abdul Malik, who formerly supported the Taliban until a couple years ago.
The Taliban took responsibility for the attack according to AFP:
“We accept the responsibility for the Peshawar suicide attack. Abdul Malik has met his fate, and if anybody else dares to raise a lashkar (militia) against us, he will be dealt (with) in same manner.”
The killer waited in his car until the mayor stepped out of his guest house near a livestock market and detonated the explosives. Among the 36 wounded, 2 were children.
The attack comes after the Pakistani military ramped up it’s effort against militants in South Waziristan and reportedly killed about 20 Taliban members in the last 24 hours or so.
