Today in an email release, Senator Jim DeMint, said he thinks term limits on career politicians is essential in fixing a broken Washington.

Guantanamo Bay. Automotive Takeovers.  ObamaCare. Extreme Spending.

It’s all happening because career politicians control a broken Washington.

As long as members have the chance to spend their lives in Washington, their interests will always skew toward spending taxpayer dollars to buyoff special interests, covering over corruption in the bureaucracy, relationship building among lobbyists, and trading favors for pork – in short, amassing their own power.

It has to stop or we will never rebuild our economy and put America back on top.

That’s why I’m pushing my term limits bill in the Senate and why I’m calling on you to help now.  We are recruiting a team of conservatives to stand with us. I need your help finding them today.

The Senator has created a new website aimed at arming activists with an easy way to reach out to their neighbors and ask them to sign a Term Limits Petition found at his website www.jimdemint.com. The new site is called Voter Fetch!

I think its a reactionary position. We should be able to vote for whom we want regardless of term limits but tyranny is a worst option.

need to think more about it.

We already have a system of term limits, however imperfect it might be. We call them elections.

I don’t know, I’m kind of on the fence here. Elections are our version of term limits – I agree. But due to the increase in special interests, lobbying groups, and voter fraud sometimes people are elected when we the people don’t want them to be.

    Quite a conundrum.

I like it. A two term limit or something like it. That would be great. The way things are going now, politicians are able to lobby to whatever groups they want to buy the race. We just got rid of Corzine in New Jersey, but the only reason that race was as close as it was, was because Corzine basically lobbied and bought the votes, when in reality everyone I talked to was fed up with what’s been going on here. Unfortunately I think we’re in one way or another being forced out of the equation (our votes counting). I think a bill like this would go a long way to get us back to our roots. When our a farmer would leave his job for several years to serve the country as president, and then go back to his actual job…….When was the last time that happened?

It would be better to outlaw pork or anyhting not related to a bill to be attached to it, so it would be voted on according to its merits

I think term limits is an absolutely grand idea. Should have been implemented a long time ago. Maximum of three terms out to be pretty good. Cut out the coziness with the Lobbyists and the ability to pass on favors for support of any bill. LISTEN TO THE CONSTITUENTS. Thank you.

In a perfect world, I’d be opposed to term limits. I agree, elections should be the term limit. The problem is 200 years of lawyers becoming politicians and writing the rules to benefit them and have you seen some of the district lines for some Congressional districts. It’s ridiculous. Here’s some examples: http://killgerrymander.wordpress.com/look-at-some-of-the-worst-districts/
I’ve been leaning toward the term-limit side, but haven’t committed yet.

Totally agree! We should be able to vote in who, “we the people” want in but the reality is the current mess we’re in. term limits keeps career politicians in check.
