Pelosi Healthcare Bill Will Require Monthly Premium For Abortions
Nov5The House Minority Leader John Boehner has posted information on the House GOP website detailing how anyone enrolled in the public option of the Pelosi Healthcare proposal before the House will be required to pay a monthly premium to pay for elective abortions.
At a time when the majority of Americans oppose allowing the government to provide public money for elective abortions, the 2,032 page Pelosi bill will mandate just that.
Citing line 17, p. 110, section 222 under “Abortions for which Public Funding is Allowed,” the Minority Leader explains how the Secretary of Health and Human Services, an unelected official not accountable to the voters, will be responsible for the decision of determining when public abortions will be allowed under the government option.
The Minority Leader writes:
“Currently, federal appropriations bills include language known as the Hyde Amendment that prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for elective abortions under the Medicare and Medicaid programs, while another provision, known as the Smith Amendment, prohibits federal funding of abortion under the federal employees’ health benefits plan.”
Minority Leader Boehner includes in his piece a link to the Republican plan, which is available at HealthCare.GOP.gov which provides a 230 page alternative to the Pelosi plan being debated in congress.
