Hard-line Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Karamirad minced no words yesterday when he announced some considerations of the Iranian Parliament. According to Karamirad, Iran might pursue withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and could possibly block any IAEA inspectors from entering the country.
The U.N. nuclear agency recently passed a resolution stating Tehran must stop building its nuclear facility near Qom directly.
“The parliament, in its first reaction to this illegal and politically-motivated resolution, can consider the issue of withdrawing from NPT,” Karamirad said.
“The parliament … (also) can block the entry of IAEA inspectors to the country,” he said.
Heretofore, Iran has threatened to remove itself from the treaty a few times. However, given the latest falling through of multilateral talks and solutions with the middle eastern nation and the discovery of the secret enrichment facility near Qom, withdrawal seems more likely.
