House Democrats Pass Health Care Plan

Nov7

Despite efforts from Republicans and conservatives alike, House democrats managed to muster up the votes to pass House Bill 3962.  Earlier on Saturday House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced “We will be making history with our vote. [...] We will pass health-care reform.” She was apparently correct. Blue Dogs put the bill over the edge and have jumped aboard after the Stupak abortion. The amendment passed and removed public funding for abortions.DemsHCtakeover

After a debate that began at about 2PM EST on Saturday, representatives duked it out until roughly 11PM EST when a vote was held. Every Republican but one voted against the bill, but of 258 democrats 220 voted yes – enough to break the barrier of 218 needed votes.

Health Care Reform has been on President Obama’s agenda since he was elected, and he hoped to achieve it by the end of the year. This specific vote, however does not guarantee the passage of the plan. The bill will now move to the Senate, where the 2 houses could compromise between their own plans. Doing so may require a few months.

Many see the House bill as an expansion of government rather than a sufficient way for health care to be given to all Americans. The 1, 990 page bill would create 111 new government bureaucracies and cost over $1 trillion.

The moment the House passed the bill, the Tea Party facebook pages lit up — this is the first shot [or possibly the fifteenth shot] in the Revolution to take back our country.

Like 1773 — the year of the original Boston Tea Party — 2009 will go down as the year that the yoke of tyranny became too tight for Americans to bear.
