Four Days After Ft. Hood Massacre, DHS.gov is Mum – Napolitano Seeking to Deflect “Anti-Muslim Sentiment”

News broke Monday morning that Fort Hood killer Nidal Hassan tried to reach out to Al Qaeda, and that many intelligence agencies were aware of it. 4 days after the Fort Hood killings, however, the Department of Homeland Security’s website has yet to post anything on the massacre. In what appears more and more to have been a terrorist attack at the Texas Fort, the department created because of 9/11 is still silent.

Wikipedia defines the DHS as:

“Whereas the Department of Defense is charged with military actions abroad, the Department of Homeland Security works in the civilian sphere to protect the United States within, at, and outside its borders. Its stated goal is to prepare for, prevent, and respond to domestic emergencies, particularly terrorism.”

If one were to go to the DHS website for information it is supposed to cover they just might wonder if it ever happened to begin with.

Here’s a screenshot of the website as it was at 6:00 PM on Monday:

The site is also rotating updates on the H1N1 virus, smoke alarms, and border contraband. There is no word if they ever intend to update their website to the reflect the massacre at Fort Hood.

Update: DHS Secretary Napolitano Warns of Anti-Muslim Backlash

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Monday she is trying to prevent a possible spike in “anti-Muslim sentiment” after the Fort Hood killings.

From the AP:

“Janet Napolitano says her agency is working with groups across the United States to try to deflect any backlash against American Muslims following Thursday’s rampage by Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim who reportedly expressed growing dismay over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Instead of warning the American people of possible  homegrown terrorism like the Fort Hood attacks may be, Napolitano has decided that the possibility of anti-Muslim sentiment among innocent Americans is more important.
